Phoenix started well against a good Mavericks team who were enjoying a strong start to the season. With 5 minutes gone, Phoenix were in the lead, though a strong end to the quarter saw the home team take take the lead 16-11.
Phoenix quickly fell 11 points behind due to successive turnovers, and combined with offensive struggles, they were unable to close the gap for the remainder of the quarter, which finished 37-25.
Some strong offensive play saw Phoenix take the momentum, and cut the deficit to 9 points, though some excellent 3 point shooting from the opposition helped them pull away again, with the quarter ending 57-41.
