Cheshire Phoenix welcomed the Cheshire Wire for the U12’s regional match.

The young Phoenix team were quick out of the blocks looking to take charge of the game early on. A few shots narrowly missed the mark from both teams while the nerves settled. Cheshire Wire broke the deadlock with a deep 2 pointer, which Phoenix responded to quickly with 2 quick layups on the counterattack.

At the 5-minute mark the mandatory substitution took effect, 5 players off/5 players on. This half of the Phoenix team showed great passing and build up play. Involving all players for some basketball which was beautiful to watch. Q1 finished 15-11 to Phoenix.

When play resumed for Q2 the Phoenix team continued to drive and press hard. A further 10 points were racked with little response from the wire. At the halftime buzzer Phoenix had pushed the lead to 37-23.

Start of Q3 showed a Cheshire Wire team which were still determined to make something of the game. However excellent defending put stop to some counter attacking play from the Wire meaning they were only able to rack up 9 points to the Phoenix 11 closing Q3 at 48-34.

There was still plenty to play for in the final quarter and the Wire team came out strong getting 3 baskets in quick succession without reply from the Phoenix. However, the Phoenix team held their nerve and responded with some brilliant basketball. There were some inspired drives and wonderfully crafted passes which allowed Phoenix to move forward as a team closing out the game 62-43.
