U11 Wildfire 31 – 29 Warrington Wildcats Vikings
In the opening period these two teams exchanged fast breaks and steals, to keep the score close. But slightly better finishing from the Vikings took them into the break with their noses in front, and the scores at 13-16.
Wildfire came out fighting in the second half. Their incisive layup play and tough defence allowed them to edge into the lead for the first time in the game, early in the second half. It was neck-and-neck as the half progressed, but some unlucky turnovers late-on, gave Vikings a 23-26 lead with three minutes to go. Wildfire showed great composure to take their chances and get late points on the board, while restricting Vikings’ opportunities. With less than a minute to go, Wildfire grabbed a 2 point lead and with some smart game management, held on for a nail-biting win. Well played Wildfire.
