Mersey Mavericks Purple 44 – 77 U12 (Playoffs)
U12R travelled to Manchester to take on local rivals, Mersey Mavericks in the playoff semi finals on Saturday.
Phoenix started the game slowly, with a few nerves and gave away an early foul sending Mavericks to the line. Free throws enabled Mavericks to open the scoring before a quick transition for Phoenix, allowed them to get their own scores on the board. There was little to separate the teams at the end of the first, but Phoenix went in 15:12 up.
The second quarter started much the same as the first had with an early foul but Phoenix settled into the game and were able to move the ball efficiently and play strong offense. They punished Mavericks with some sharp shooting and went into the half time break with a 35:23 lead.
The third quarter saw Phoenix start to dominant the game with lots of players able to get their names on the scoresheet. Phoenix excelled in offense and transitioned well, winning the quarter 26:9 and taking the overall score to 61:32 in their favour.
Phoenix kept their composure and were able to let the basketball do the talking. Their strength as a team shone through and they secured a well-deserved place in Sundays final. The final score was 77:44. Phoenix had overcome so much in the game and were rightly proud of themselves at the final whistle.
