Bridgewater Jets Lions 28 – 19 U11 Heat
In another tough matchup, the Year 5 Phoenix Heat took on the older Bridgewater Jets Lions, with both teams only able to field five players.
Heat are usually quick out of the blocks, but they began the first half of this game more subdued than usual and it took them some time to settle in to it. This allowed the Lions to take an early lead, which they held until the break, going into half time 16 – 7.
However, the Heat players came out for the second half with the bit between their teeth and were able to keep pace with the Lions. Heat’s defence was absolutely outstanding, frustrating their opponents with hard fought steals and tough marking within the paint. Both teams added 12 points to their score in the second half, but Heat weren’t able to close the first half gap and the game ended 28 – 19
Although Heat have struggled for a win since their recent promotion to the premier league, they are gaining tremendous experience and will learn a lot from playing against older teams, as was evident today from their defensive game. An intriguing matchup awaits next week against the Cheshire Phoenix Asteroids, with Heat going for their first premier league win.
