U11 Asteroids 33 – 46 U11 Meteorites
Chester Phoenix Meteorites took on Chester Phoenix Asteroids, with the Asteroids seeking revenge after their last defeat. With a joint tenpin bowling event later, no one wanted to lose.
The Asteroids struck first within 4 seconds. After an accidental injury, the Meteorites made an early sub, but by 5 minutes, the Asteroids led 5-2. Strong defending helped them extend the lead to 7 points. The injured player returned, and the Meteorites closed the gap to 1 point after 14 minutes.
Both teams played fast. Fresh legs for the Meteorites brought energy, but the Asteroids regained their lead. By the last minute of the half, it was tied at 15-15, but a late penalty and 2 points from the returning player put the Meteorites up 17-15 at the break.
In the second half, the Asteroids quickly tied the score again. The Meteorites then found their rhythm, pulling ahead 23-17. A big 3-pointer from the Asteroids kept things close, but with 6 minutes left, the Meteorites led 35-25.
Another long 3-pointer from the Asteroids excited the crowd, but a crucial pass and layup extended the Meteorites’ lead. Despite a late 5-on-1 advantage for the Asteroids, they couldn’t close the gap. A buzzer-beater sealed it for the Meteorites.
Final score: Meteorites 46 – Asteroids 33. The match was much closer than it sounds. Now, on to bowling!
