Manchester Giants 60 – 92 U12P
Phoenix travelled to Manchester to take on Manchester Giants in their first regional game of the season.
Phoenix came out of the blocks firing and settled into the game well. They were able to use their strong offensive plays and cruise to a 27-9 lead at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter didn’t quite continue in the same vein. Lots of little mistakes lead to the Giants getting turnovers and punishing Phoenix at the basket. Phoenix were able to keep the points ticking but Giants had closed the gap at the end of the half. Phoenix took a small lead into the half time break, with scores at 43-31.
Phoenix came back out on court, regrouped and together. It was clear that Phoenix were ready to do battle and they started well. The players dug deep, stayed disciplined and continued to keep the baskets flowing. Giants continued to press and the two teams went basket for basket. It was 64-51 at the end of the quarter and the game was all to play for.
Phoenix knew what they had to do, they tightened up on defence and focussed on offensive transitions as a team. Phoenix showed just how important it is to play as a team and contribute all over the court. Everyone knew their roles and executed them perfectly. They limited Giants to just 9 points in the last quarter and took a promising first win of the season. Final score was 90-62. Well done to all the players on a fantastic team win!
