Mersey Mavericks Purple v U14 White

U14 White 84 - 41 Manchester Magic II

Mersey Mavericks Purple 48 – 58 U14 White

U14 White took part in their first away game of the season against Mersey Mavericks Purple. From the second the game started, it was obvious that both teams were hungry for the win. There was an immense intensity to the game. Neither team gave the opposition an inch, and a battle began. Strong defensive and offensive plays led to both teams scoring point for point, ending the first quarter 10 – 11 to Phoenix.

The second quarter started very much the same, with neither team slowing down. Cheshire Phoenix displayed their teamwork skills, working together with one goal. Despite this, Mavericks managed to tip the scoreboard in their favour, scoring 18 points to Phoenix’s 14. Ending the second quarter 25-28 to Mersey Mavericks. Phoenix headed into the second half with Mavericks taking a slight lead.

A half-time team talk with the coach saw the Phoenix ramp up their defensive play. This, combined with the team’s great use of strategy, turned the tide, with Phoenix scoring 13 points to Mavericks 4. Ending the third quarter 32 – 38 to Phoenix.

Phoenix carried this into the fourth quarter, and although Mavericks continued to work immensely hard, Phoenix continued their game play and kept their focus. With guidance from the coach, support from the bench and spectators, Phoenix pushed on, scoring another 20 points and taking the win. Ending the game 48-58 to Phoenix.

The passion and intensity shown by both teams led to a white-knuckle ride of a game. I am sure this win will stick with the team and those spectating for a very long time. Huge well done to Cheshire Phoenix Juniors, U14 White, and thank you to the formidable Mersey Mavericks Purple team for hosting an amazing game.
